We returned to Palm Springs on September 11-14th for the 2022 SCEC Annual Meeting! The meeting was a mashup of in-person activities, with some added online features offered through the SCEC annual meeting platform to facilitate interactions for meeting participants.

Who attends the SCEC Annual Meeting?
- SCEC project teams are expected to present results of research funded through the annual SCEC Collaboration Plan and other Center projects. Investigators present results at the annual meeting poster sessions, workshops and/or working group meetings.
- SCEC leadership, advisory groups, and full-time staff from SCEC headquarters
- Agency sponsors and partners who provide funding support for Center activities and initiatives
- Researchers working on topics relevant to SCEC priorities and initiatives that are interested in engaging with the SCEC collaboration
- Potential academic, government, and industry partners connected with computational science, earthquake engineering research, risk communication and other practical applications of SCEC research
- Early career scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate interns typically make up more than 40% of participants.

How do I participate in the upcoming SCEC annual meeting?
- Register for the meeting by August 19, 2022 (5:00pm Pacific Time Zone) to attend in person in Palm Springs or for online access only. A SCEC account is required for meeting registration.
- Submit an abstract for the poster sessions by August 19, 2022 (5:00pm Pacific Time Zone). Submitted abstracts are reviewed and, within 3 days, accepted abstracts will be posted online.
What if I have missed the registration and abstract deadline?
- There is no late registration (or late abstract submission) for SCEC2022. Only participants and abstracts submitted through the website by the deadline can be included in the secure online platform.
What is the cost of attending the SCEC annual meeting?
- For the 2022 SCEC annual meeting, the registration fee for in-person attendees is $150 and the registration fee for online access only is $50. See full details on the registration page.
Is there financial assistance from SCEC to support student participation?
- Many of SCEC’s core institutions will support travel to the SCEC annual meeting for their students and early career researchers. If you have checked with your supervisor and department, and your institution's resources are exhausted, you may apply for a financial hardship waiver of the registration fee by emailing scecmeet@usc.edu right away. If you are presenting a poster at the SCEC Annual Meeting and need additional travel support, you may also apply for a travel support award through the SCEC Transitions program.

*Recordings may not be available online until the day after the live presentation. After September 21, 2022 the interactive online meeting platform will transition to a static archived site hosting only plenary and poster materials the author consents to make publicly available.
What technology and equipment do I need to access the online meeting platform?
- At a minimum you will need a computer, internet connection, modern web browser, and audio (speaker/headphone and microphone). For a better interactive online experience, a webcam and headset are recommended.
- Zoom video and web conferencing software installed on your computer. Ensure you have updated to the latest Zoom version for optimal online meeting experience.
What are the guidelines for physical and online poster presentations?
- Once your abstract is accepted, work with your co-authors to prepare your poster presentation content, including a poster PDF and optional videos of 1-minute lightning talk and 5-minute walk-through of your poster.
- Instructions for uploading your poster PDF and videos will be sent to first authors after the August 19 abstract submission deadline. Poster PDF and video(s) will be due by September 10, 2022.
- Physical posters to display at the meeting should not exceed 45” x 45”.

What does it mean to be assigned to Poster Group A or Poster Group B?
- The physical posters will be divided into two groups displayed on Monday, September 12 (Group A) and Tuesday, September 13 (Group B), and augmented with online poster spaces where all posters are available 24/7 from September 11-21, 2022.
- During the scheduled poster viewing sessions, participants may meet in person or online to discuss results and exchange ideas with other meeting registrants.
- Large screens with laptop hookups throughout the venue will be made for sharing posters or other multimedia any time among small groups at the meeting venue.
What accessibility accommodations are available?
- Captions will be available during live meeting sessions.
- Presentation slides will be available for download (with speaker’s permission) as soon as possible after each presentation.
- Participants with additional accessibility needs are encouraged to contact scecmeet@usc.edu as early as possible to determine if we are able to help.
How do I find my registration payment receipt?
Your registration receipt can be found by navigating to your SCEC.org dashboard, selecting the "Meetings" icon, and clicking on "VIEW REGISTRATION".
