SCEC Transitions

The Transitions Program provides students and early-career scientists in the SCEC community with resources and mentoring at major transitions in their educational and professional careers via mentoring, research, and workforce development initiatives. In doing so, the Transitions Program aims to broaden participation, increase diversity, and promote the growth of a more capable STEM workforce.

SCEC Transitions offers the following programs to the SCEC Community:

Research Mentoring Workshops are designed for anyone in the SCEC community who is interested in enhancing their mentoring skills and relationships. The mentoring workshop series offers options for Mentors (faculty and postdocs) and Mentees (graduate and undergraduate students).

Research and Travel Award programs support students to present their research at scientific conferences. Participation in scientific conferences allows students to build their professional profile, network, and broaden their research and career interests.

Career Development activities provide opportunities for early-career researchers and students to connect with mentors to explore career pathways, share experiences, and develop networking techniques and strategies for navigating critical career transitions. Workshop and networking opportunities include the annual Breakfast Club meeting and Lightning Talks session at SCEC’s Annual Meeting.
