Project Abstract |
In 2017 the UGMS committee created a beta version of a web data-access tool that combined the results from the NGA West2 GMPE’s with those from CyberShake in order to determine MCER response spectra for southern California, per the procedures in the ASCE 7-16 standard. Based on review comments received, a final version of a web data-access tool to obtain the MCER was developed and released for public use in the spring of 2018; this tool is accessed at https://data2.scec.org/ugms-mcerGM-tool_v18.4. The UGMS added the BSE response spectra per ASCE 41-17 to the data-access tool and issued a beta version for review at https://ugmsv2.scec.org/ugmsv2/, with user name, ugms, and password, November7. |
Intellectual Merit | The novel concept employed in the research was to directly use the results of 3-D numerical simulations in the development of MCER ground motion for use in building design. Simulations have not been directly used in this manner before. |
Broader Impacts | The MCER response spectra obtained for southern California under this project is considered to better account for the 3-D basin structure, and the coupling of seismic waves emanating from the regions active faults and propagating within and interacting with a 3-D velocity structure of the region. |
