Project Abstract
During its May 2016 meeting, the UGMS committee finalized the approach to combine the results from the NGA West2 GMPE’s with those from CyberShake in order to determine MCER response spectra for southern California, per the procedures in the ASCE 7-16 standard. The approach is illustrated in the logic tree shown in Figure 3 of the Crouse et al. (2016) publication attached to the 2016 UGMS report.
Intellectual Merit The UGMS work has taken advantage of the SCEC research on the use of 3-D physics based numerical simulations of ground motion to improve the ground motions used for design of long period structures (e.g., tall buildings, base-isolated buildings, long span bridges)in southern California.
Broader Impacts In 2016 the UGMS broadened its outreach to the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC), which have been promoting the UGMS work to practicing structural engineers.
