2024 Crustal Deformation Modeling Workshop
June 10-14, 2024, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO
REGISTATION IS FILLING UP!
The focus of this gathering will be computational models addressing crustal deformation in the following areas:
- Constraining long-term fault slip rates and their uncertainties using geodetic and geologic data;
- Earthquake cycle modeling with a focus on constraining models using seismic and geodetic data;
- Interaction of fluids and faulting; and
- Separating contributions of surface loading and tectonic loading in crustal deformation.
The workshop will be held June 10-14, 2024, in Golden, Colorado on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines. The first two days of the workshop will be tutorials related to PyLith (an open-source, community code for modeling crustal deformation with a focus on earthquake faulting; all software tools used in the tutorials is free and open-source) followed by three days of science talks, discussions, and informal tutorials and collaboration.
We will provide reimbursement for a portion of the travel costs incurred for registered attendees with official appointments at U.S. institutions. CRESCENT CVM Topical Virtual Workshop
The CRESCENT Community Velocity Model (CVM) group is holding a topical workshop on the mornings of May 13 and 14, from 8am to 12pm. Our goals for this workshop are to update the community on CRESCENT CVM goals and broaden the participation of/interaction with the Cascadia-focused research community. This will be done through discussions on existing velocity models, velocity model creation workflows, model validation techniques, and uses of velocity models by various sub-disciplines and communities (e.g., ground motion modeling, geological interpretation, etc.) to further research agendas. We look to solicit feedback and create potential collaborations that can contribute to the success of the CRESCENT CVM by learning from prior experiences and better understanding community needs, uses, considerations, and potential pitfalls.
