Northridge Earthquake Symposium (1/17, at Caltech)
Date: 01/09/2024
Dear SCEC Community,
On January 17, 1994, the magnitude 6.7 Northridge earthquake reverberated through the San Fernando Valley and across SoCal, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape—and the field of seismic design.
For the 30th Anniversary of this historic event, the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California is holding the Northridge30 Symposium at Caltech on January 17. The symposium will reflect upon the design and construction lessons gleaned in the aftermath of the cataclysmic event. Many partners have worked together to plan the symposium, including SCEC.
The morning will include panel sessions with reflections from those on the ground 30 years ago and those working today to prepare for the next major quake. Experts will include first responders, building officials, engineers, and keynote speaker Dr. Lucy Jones. This morning session is free to attend.
Technical discussions will follow lunch, featuring two tracks (Existing Buildings and New Buildings). The costs to attend these components are listed on the registration page.
