Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Yeats Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology - Oregon State University

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applicants for a tenure-track (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) faculty position to fill the R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology. The Yeats Professorship generates funds on an annual basis to be used at the discretion of the appointee.

The ideal applicant integrates field-generated data with additional information, using analytical and/or computational techniques, to understand processes and patterns of crustal deformation over earthquake-cycle and longer timescales. Potential areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, continental deformation, subduction zones, paleoseismology and paleogeodesy, and fault-zone mechanics. Desirable candidates will conduct field-based interdisciplinary research that integrates geological and geophysical data with the aim of improving society’s understanding of and resilience to seismic hazards. Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in geology, earth sciences, or a related field, and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.

The successful candidate will demonstrate capabilities and/or high potential for research and teaching excellence that will inspire the next generation of geoscience students and early career researchers. This includes 1) creatively contributing to teaching undergraduate courses in subjects such as structural geology, field geology, geomorphology, geophysics, and/or geological oceanography as well as graduate courses in specialty, 2) building an international reputation in research in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology and a strong externally funded research program, and 3) contributing to on-going college- and university-wide efforts to improve diversity, equity and inclusion. We encourage applicants from all career stages and from historically underrepresented groups in higher education

Any hiring at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor with indefinite tenure will be subject to a successful out-of-cycle tenure review process:
