Faculty positions available
Yachay Tech University is the first research intensive university of Ecuador. The University is located in the Inter-Andean valley about two hours north of Quito. Yachay means knowledge in Kichwa and Yachay Tech is adjacent to the developing Yachay “City of Knowledge,” the first planned technology city in the Andean region. The mission of the University is to provide an international environment in which research, learning, technology, and professional activity are valued and supported. Since opening in March of 2014, the student population has grown to a total of approximately 800 undergraduates. We anticipate initiating doctoral programs in the near future. Each of the University´s six schools (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Mathematics, and Social Sciences) features a distinct academic structure that pairs engineering with basic sciences. An intensive English language program qualifies students for the upper level coursework that will be taught entirely in English.
The School of Geological Sciences and Engineering at Yachay Tech invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in all major fields of geology and geological engineering, including candidates with experience in the various subdiscipines of the following research areas: petroleum geology and engineering; volcanology, petrology, and mineralogy; water resources, hydrology, hydropower, and geothermal resources; climate, paleoclimate, and climate change; seismology and seismic hazards; economic geology, mineral resources, and mining; oceanography, paleooceanography, and marine resources; and origins and conservation of biodiversity.
Yachay Tech faculty will develop active research programs, direct PhD students, involve undergraduate students in collaborative research projects, teach (in English) upper level undergraduate and graduate courses in their fields of specialty, and participate in campus service activities.

Lamont Research Professors
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University anticipates appointing one or more Lamont Research Professors in the Earth sciences in the coming academic year. The rank of the appointment(s) is open and dependent on experience. Lamont Research Professors receive nine-month appointments with partial salary support provided from institutional sources. An incentive program encourages the establishment of a vigorous externally funded research program to provide the majority of salary support, including an opportunity for summer salary. Applicants for Associate and Full Research Professor ranks should have established records of innovative research of high impact in one or more areas of Earth science, through publications in peer-reviewed journals, and should have demonstrated success at raising external support for their research programs. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Research Professor should have demonstrated potential for significant research contributions by having published in peer-reviewed journals and potential for supporting their research programs with external funding. Candidates with strong secondary interests in science education and outreach are also encouraged to apply. Following the recent completion of an Observatory-wide strategic plan, LDEO is particularly interested in applicants who will expand our expertise in the following areas:

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Climate and paleoclimate studies, including coupled climate, ocean, and terrestrial ecosystems

Eligibility requirements include a Ph.D. in Earth and environmental sciences or a related field, evidence of ongoing externally funded research programs or potential for supporting research programs with external funding, and at least 2–3 years of relevant research experience. Call for Papers
For a PAGEOPH Topical Volume on
Earthquakes and Multi-hazards around the Pacific Rim
We invite submissions for a special issue of Pure and Applied Geophysics (PAGEOPH), entitled “Earthquakes and Multi-hazards around the Pacific Rim”.
For this special issue, we solicit submissions of numerical, observational and laboratory studies as they relate to simulations and forecasting of earthquake processes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami inundation, and other categories of natural hazards, together with methods to validate the codes and verify them using observed data. Special topics of particular interest include the proposed Global Navigation Satellite System Tsunami Early Warning technology. More fine-grained topics include papers on micro-physics of earthquakes and friction; earthquake source parameter scaling; macro-scale simulation of earthquake ruptures and seismic cycles; wave propagation simulations; studies of novel computational environments and efficient algorithms; as well as data assimilation and model applications.
We especially invite review papers related to the main subject [T1] of the special issue and we invite participants of the 9th ACES International Workshop, held August 10-16, 2015 in Chengdu, China to submit work presented during the meeting. (http://www.csi.ac.cn/ACES2015/Home/index.html)
