Postdoctoral Fellowships
in the
Earth, Environmental, and Ocean Sciences
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships in the fields of the Earth, environmental, and ocean sciences. Candidates should have recently completed their Ph.D. or should expect to complete their degree requirements by September 2016.
Researchers at the Observatory work to understand the dynamics of the Earth’s chemical, physical, and biological systems, from the core to the upper atmosphere, including Earth’s interactions with human society. Our scientists lead research in the fields of solid Earth dynamics; ocean, atmospheric, and climate systems; cryospheric dynamics; paleoclimate; and biogeoscience.
The principal selection criteria for Fellows are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of Earth science. Applications from all related fields are welcomed.
Fellowships are supported institutionally for 24 months, include a $5,000 research allowance, and carry an annual salary of $62,000. Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for external funding and may be eligible for further internal awards and positions. LDEO is especially interested in qualified candidates whose record of achievement will contribute to the diversity of the Observatory’s scientific personnel.

Dear Colleagues,
The School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Exploration Postdoctoral Fellow. The fellowship provides opportunities for outstanding early-career scientists and engineers emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. Research areas within SESE encompass astrobiology, astrophysics and cosmology, earth and planetary sciences, instrumentation and systems engineering, and science education.
Incoming Fellows will receive an annual stipend of $61,000 with health benefits, plus $9,000 per year in discretionary research funds. A relocation allowance of up to $2,500 will be provided. Appointments will be for up to three years and shall commence on or around July 1, 2016.

POSITION:
Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences, Geophysicist
EFFECTIVE DATE:
August 17, 2016 (Fall Semester)
SALARY RANGE:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in the Geological Sciences or a closely related field. Record of research in Geophysics. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2016. The area of research should be in applied shallow earth geophysics, defined broadly to include the study of natural or artificial energyforms and waves and their application in solving geological/environmental/resource problems. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and demonstrated potential for developing and sustaining an independent, externally funded research program involving students that will lead to scientific publications and presentations. Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.
DESIRE QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. Existing connections with the professional community. Record of grant supported published research in Geophysics. Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate and masters' level students in Geophysical research. Experience in teaching a variety of geophysics, geology and related courses at undergraduate, and/or graduate level. Ability or desire to collaborate with departmental faculty to develop a program that uses seismic reflection or other remote sensing techniques commonly used in industry and academia to address geologic problems in Southern California. Ability or desire to integrate methods and lines of inquiry that will build upon existing strengths in the department.
DUTIES:
Teach Geophysics and related subjects at undergraduate and graduate (M.S. degree) levels to support the educational mission of the Department. Support graduate student research in Geophysics and Geology. Apply for external support through grants and contracts. Maintaining a research program recognized for excellence. Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.
