Title: Postdoc position in reflection seismology at the Earth Observatory of Singapore
The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for a post-doctoral research
scientist position in the field of reflection seismology (post-doc only) to join the Structural Geology group at EOS. The successful applicant will work with investigators of the Tectonics group on inter-connected problems related to natural hazards, with a particular emphasis on Southeast Asia and surroundings.
The successful candidates will join a dynamic team of geologists, paleoseismologists, geodesists, seismologists, and modelers interested in increasing fundamental knowledge of the region’s tectonic and seismic behavior, for more reliable forecasting and mitigation of earthquake and tsunami hazards.
We seek a qualified, highly motivated candidate to participate in the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of high resolution seismic reflection data acquired by the EOS-owned and operated IVI Envirovibe and 264-channel seismograph. The structural geology group has already acquired over 100 km of line length in Nepal across the Main Frontal Thrust, and the equipment will be deployed in Bangladesh over the next two years, to acquire data across active faults. The project goal is to understand the fault kinematics and slip history of active faults across Southeast Asia.
Start date is preferred to be within the next 6 months or less. Salaries are internationally competitive.
Requirements: A recent Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics or a related discipline is required. Experience with reflection seismic processing is required. Field experience is a plus.
How to apply:
Applicants should submit a personal statement describing research experience and interests, a curriculum vita, and the names and email addresses of three references to Judith Hubbard (judith.a.hubbard@gmail.com).
