2 AGU Session Announcements

Date: 08/04/2014

Dear SCEC Community,

The deadline for the 2014 AGU Fall Meeting session abstract submission is tomorrow, August 6th. We are continuing to receive a great number of requests to send out session announcements to inform, invite, and remind potential abstract submitters in advance of this deadline. Included below are more of these announcements.

If you plan to attend AGU, please take a moment to review these announcements.

Thank you!

======================= Session 2373 ===================

Dear All

We would like to bring attention on our AGU session "Fault Zone Properties and Processes during Dynamic Rupture". Please forwad this email to those who might be interested.

Session Description:
Fault zones in the brittle crust are intricate features with evolving properties. Particularly, dynamic earthquake rupture processes lead to changes in on-fault and off-fault properties as well as in fault micro-structure. In turn, fault properties affect nucleation processes, the extend and timing of rupture, seismic wave radiation and aseismic deformation. Field observations, geodetic and seismological measurements, laboratory experiments combined with numerical modeling provide new approaches to better apprehend the physics of earthquake rupture and the evolution of fault zones. The goal of this session is to bring together different disciplines enhancing our knowledge on the properties and processes of fault zones in the brittle crust. We encourage multidisciplinary contributions covering observation and lab-experiment on fault fabric and mechanics, imaging of fault zones, physical and chemical fault property evolution, dynamic rupture processes and physically-based numerical modeling of seismically rupturing fault zones.

======================= Session 3651 ===================

Dear colleagues:

The American Geophysical Union’s 47th annual Fall Meeting will be held in San Francisco, California 15 – 19 December. We would like to bring to your attention the following session related to the science enabled by a proposed synthetic aperture radar mission being studied jointly by the US and India:

New Frontiers in Ecosystem, Solid Earth, Cryosphere, and Natural Hazards

The deadline for abstract submissions is 6 August 2014. Find more information at:
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm14/webprogrampreliminary/Session3651.html

Session ID#: 3651

Session Description:

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Mission, or NI-SAR, is an all-weather L- and S-band radar satellite designed to collect temporally and spatially dense global polarimetric and interferometric radar imagery to characterize and understand the fundamental process that drive changes to ecosystems (above ground biomass, disturbance/recovery, climate change, wetlands and agriculture), solid earth deformation (earthquakes, volcanic unrest, land subsidence/hydrology, carbon sequestration and landslides), cryospheric dynamics (ice sheets, sea ices, and glaciers), and hazard response (solid earth hazards, floods, coastal inundation, anthropogenic disasters). NI-SAR, scheduled to launch in 2020, provides a means of disentangling highly spatial and temporally complex processes that span the Earth Sciences.  We seek contributions from the AGU community on the wide-ranging emergent uses of SAR imaging techniques, including polarimetry, interferometry, and time-series analysis, for innovative science, and science applications.
