USGS Research Geologist Position, Golden, CO

The U.S. Geological Survey has a GS-12 Research Geologist position opening in Golden, CO. Applications are due on May 28, 2014 via www.usajobs.gov (Announcement# PAC-2014-0471).
 
The successful applicant will conduct research in paleoseismology, earthquake geology, and Quaternary tectonics with an emphasis on actively deforming parts of the Intermountain Western US. However, the incumbent’s expertise in paleoseismology may be applied wherever this expertise contributes to a better understanding of seismic hazard.
 
Specific job duties will include:

- Conducts field based paleoseismic research to determine the chronology of past earthquakes and slip rate on faults.
- Synthesizes paleoseismic data from multiple sites along a fault system to develop probabilistic earthquake rupture chronologies using knowledge of Quaternary dating techniques and modeling tools.
- Presents research results orally and in published peer reviewed scientific journals.
