SCEC Intern alumnus award-winning image on the cover of Science Magazine

Have you seen the eerie and enigmatic image on the cover of the Feb 1st Issue of Science?

SCEC Internship Program alumnus Emmett McQuinn and his team at IBM created this award-winning image.  "The Connectivity of a Cognitive Computer Based on the Macaque Brain" won first place in the Illustration Category in the 2012 International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge.  In 2007 McQuinn was part of the SCEC Undergraduate Studies in Earthquake Information Technology (UseIT) Program, and in 2008 he joined the SCEC Advancement of Cyberinfrastructure Careers through Earthquake System Science (ACCESS) graduate internship program. The ACCESS program supported McQuinn's graduate work in Computer Science at the University of California, San Diego, which awarded him an MS degree in 2010. Currently, he is a research staff member in Cognitive Computing at IBM Research - Almaden.
