ANNOUNCING the 2013 SCEC Science Collaboration Plan

Date: 10/09/2012

The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) coordinates basic research in earthquake science using Southern California as its natural laboratory. SCEC emphasizes the connections between information gathering by sensor networks, fieldwork, and laboratory experiments; knowledge formulation through physics-based, system-level modeling; improved understanding of seismic hazard; and actions to reduce earthquake risk and promote resilience. The Center is a consortium of institutions that coordinates earthquake system science within Southern California. SCEC's long-term goal is to understand how seismic hazards change across all time scales of scientific and societal interest, from millennia to seconds.

On February 1, 2012, the Center transitioned from SCEC3 to SCEC4 under joint funding from NSF/EAR and the USGS. SCEC4 is funded for the period February 2012 through January 2017. The SCEC4 project, described as "Tracking Earthquake Cascades" takes the collaboration in ambitious new directions, with the goal of addressing the six fundamental problems in earthquake science outlined in the proposal <http://www.scec.org/aboutscec/documents/SCEC4_01-Proposal_FINAL.pdf>. The *SCEC Science Collaboration Plan* solicits proposals from individuals and groups to participate in the SCEC4 research program.

*Proposals are due Friday, November 9, 2012 (5:00 pm PST).*

*SCEC Proposal Submission System: Coming Soon!*
Proposals must be submitted through the SCEC Proposal Submission System, accessible via SCEC signin <http://www.scec.org/signin/>.
You (and your co-PIs) must have a SCEC profile to submit a proposal to SCEC. Follow this link to request a SCEC profile <http://www.scec.org/aboutscec/request.html>.

See the SCEC Science Collaboration Plan document for complete instructions for proposal submission, eligibility requirements, and evaluation criteria.

*SCEC-Funded Project Reports*
To receive 2013 SCEC funding, all prior SCEC-funded project reports must be submitted and up to date.
Go to your SCEC signin <http://www.scec.org/signin/> to view/submit your annual report(s).

Go to the Database of Annual Reports <http://www.scec.org/core/cis/reportsearch.php> to search and view all submitted annual reports.
