2010 FAULT PARTY @ AGU
Date: 10/27/2010
Forwarded invitation from Christie Rowe, UC Santa Cruz:
Dear Friends of the Faults -
We hope you will join us for the Second (Annual?) Fault Party on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2pm at the outcrop of the Corona Fault.
PURPOSE: To get modelers, experimentalists, field geologists, seismologists, etc. together in front of a fault outcrop to discuss fault roughness, friction, geometry, wear, lubrication, and how we can improve our ability to communicate and inform each others' research.
LOCATION: Outcrop of the Corona Fault - A shiny, polished, bumpy, silica-coated, slickenlined surface exposed by quarrying of broken damage zone rock for aggregate in the aftermath of 1906 (so it is FRESH). Cross-sectional structure of the fault is exposed in a fault-perpendicular roadcut and in irregularities on the outcrop surface.
The Corona Fault outcrop is in the playground of the Rocky Mountain Coop Nursery School (Piexotto Clubhouse) at 2475 15th Street, San Francisco (a few blocks north of Market + Castro).
It is a 10 minute cab ride from the Moscone center, a 1/2 hour public transit trip (use MUNI, not BART) or an hour walk.
The UCSC group will preview some of our recent work on the Corona fault. Same location as last year - but new faces, new results and new ideas so it is not redundant to attend again!
