POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences (COAS) announces the availability of a tenure track faculty position in Marine Geology and Geophysics with a specialty in either remote sensing (at global or smaller scales) of the solid Earth or other planets, or application of GPS to studies of crustal dynamics. COAS is one of the leading oceanographic and atmospheric research institutions in the country with more than 200 faculty and staff members, and a wide variety of assets, including an excellent computing infrastructure, state-of-the-art analytical laboratories and two research vessels. We seek a colleague whose research will complement and enhance the existing nationally and internationally recognized research programs within COAS in geology and geophysics, and in oceanographic satellite remote sensing.

TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor in a tenure track position.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential qualifications include a Ph.D. in geophysics or a closely related field, a record of significant and innovative research, and the clear potential to attract external funding. Experience in mentoring or teaching of graduate students is desirable. The applicant should have a strong background in the broad area of airborne or satellite remote sensing of the solid Earth. Possible areas of specialization include GPS, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR), LIDAR, altimetry, and global satellite remote sensing of magnetic or gravitational fields. A demonstrated interest in integrating large datasets with physics-based numerical modeling to advance understanding of solid Earth processes is highly desirable. Interest in interacting with COAS faculty in new national initiatives such as EarthScope and PBO, and/or with faculty involved in oceanographic remote sensing applications is also desirable. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level, however, applicants with an exceptional record of research achievements and other relevant experience may be considered at the Associate Professor level. Candidates with a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity will be given preference.
